MTS former exec Latsanich elected as VimpelCom CEO from Jan 10
MOSCOW, Nov 28 (PRIME) -- The board of directors of Russian mobile operator VimpelCom, working under the Beeline brand, has decided to terminate the powers of CEO Kjell Morten Johnsen and replace him with Vasil Latsanich, a former vice president for strategy and marketing at mobile operator MTS, VimpelCom said on Tuesday in a statement.
“To elect Vasil Latsanich as general director of VimpelCom from January 10, 2018, through December 31, 2020,” the statement read.
VimpelCom’s sole owner VEON said: “In his new role, Vasil will report to Kjell Morten Johnsen, VEON’s head of major markets.”
“Vasil brings extensive experience and a proven track record in the telecoms industry. His appointment will further strengthen and develop VEON’s strong market position, particularly as we look to implement important strategic initiatives in a highly dynamic and developing Russian market,” Johnsen.
Latsanich spent over 16 years in telecoms, most of which was with the MTS group in a number of senior roles.
“I am excited by the opportunity to lead VimpelCom, and I am looking forward to working with the team to ensure that Beeline customers are provided with the best digital services and solutions, particularly as the Russian telecoms market enters a new phase of development and digital change,” Latsanich said.
VimpelCom serviced 58.8 million customers in Russia as of the end of September.
